Visegrád Forest Education Centre 1982-88
"The building is based on the effect of the intersection
of two half-spheres. The inner, smaller cupola is supported
by twelve wooden columns. Two larger entrances were built
on the northeast/southwest axis. The placing of the columns
correspond to the zodiac . . . The earth renoved [during building]
was brought back and placed on top of the building to give
the impression that it is emerging from the ground. The exposed
part was covered in copper scales. The copula's oculus is
surrounded by a crown. The gateposts are 'eagels', the doors,
the eagels' spread wings.
The construction of the building was accompanied by great
difficulties, as if all the powers which opposed 'living architecture'
had gathered together in one place. Of my entire 30 years
architectural career, I regard this little building as the
most important. I would be very pleased if it opened in the
spring and if everyone who shared in the aim og bringing together
man and nature through a magical power, could stand inside
and say: 'Thank God, we did it."
